The propulsion team is responsible for the boat’s propulsion system, which includes gears, bearings, and shafts housed in the backstrut, connecting the electric motor to the boat’s propeller. This year, the team is transitioning from solar power to methanol which needs a heavier hull compared to previous years. As a result of the increased weight, the boat requires more thrust and and the backstrut requires more structural strength. Therefore, a new propulsion system must be developed.
